The 24-hour window is real
A story disappears from Instagram’s public endpoints the moment it expires, and nothing can retrieve it afterwards. If you want to keep something, save it while it is live. This is the one category where waiting genuinely loses you the file.
Highlights are the exception: they are stories the account chose to keep, so they stay available indefinitely and can be saved at any time.
You do not appear in the viewer list
The seen-by list is built when a story is opened inside Instagram while logged in. Saving here happens outside that flow, so your account is never associated with the view. We never ask for your login, which is precisely why this holds.

How long can a story be saved for?
Twenty-four hours from posting. After that Instagram removes it and no tool can recover it.
Are stickers, text and filters included?
Anything burned into the frame is included. Interactive overlays like polls and link stickers are not part of the file.
Can I save highlights the same way?
